This past saturday...

Ok, so we had our first weigh in last Saturday.  That went very well!  It was encouraging to hear how much weight everybody lost, and to hear how they’d been doing in person.  I did well my first weigh in I think.  So after the weigh in, I must confess, I felt indestructible.  I decided that since I did so well, I decided a treat.  I went out and got a pizza sub from hungry howies.  I got on the scale the next day.  Bad news!  It took me until today for my body to get rid of it.  I’m not sure I’d do that again; maybe I’ll find something more healthy to splurge on next time.

Things are looking up.. or down???

Last week I was pretty stressed over the fact that I was losing weight.  I got to thinking, what am I doing wrong?  Do I need to change my diet already?  Is my strategy failing?  Working out thus far hasn’t fit into my schedule.  Then all of a sudden this week, I get on the scale and am down a few pounds.  A few days later… another pound.  I must be doing something right.  Maybe my body was adapting to the eating habits and was confused on what I was doing.  Long story short – don’t give up if you don’t see immediate results.  If after about 2 or 3 weeks nothing is changing, then I would say re-evaluate your diet/exercise plan.

Last night

Last night was Steves party at harry buffalo. It was a lot of fun.  I will admit I decided to get a burger, and I probably went over my calories, but I did save 1000 calories for dinner.  I got right back on track today and hopefully I didn't skip a beat.

A bit fluctuated.

So I've been weighing myself every day, and over the past few days, I'd say 5, I've been fluctuating in my weight. I was up a few pound, and now I'm back down to my lowest weight since this contest. I'm grateful for that though. I'm still counting my calories very strictly and am feeling pretty good within.

Now tomorrow I'm going out for Steve's 30th birthday dinner, so tomorrow night's dinner might be a little caloric.  Caloric, is that a word?

Fast

This week has flown by. I stayed on track calorie wise but still haven't found time to do any exercises.  I'm kind of bummed about that. I'm still losing weight, but not as quickly as I wanted. Its amazing how easy it is to put on isn't it?  But then again, it didn't come on over night. Still losing though!

Craving Fast Food?

So far things have been going well.  I’ve been monitoring my food intake still very strictly.  It has been paying off for sure.  I’m losing weight and starting to feel even a little lighter.  My energy level is starting to pick up, and my clothes are fitting a tiny bit different.  It’s an exciting change.

I wanted to also share something I did this week that maybe some of you can benefit from.  My wife called me on the phone a few nights ago and she said, “I want Arbys”.  I’m thinking, oh man, what am I going to do.  It’s 7:00PM and there isn’t any chicken thawed for dinner.  Do I give into the temptation, or do I try to find something else to eat???  So, I went to their website and saw that one roast beef sandwich was 350 calories.  At first I decided I wasn’t going to intake 700 calories from these two sandwiches, but then I got to thinking.  I wonder how many calories are in the bun alone?  The bun ended up being 210 calories of that 350.

I got my two sandwiches, took the roast beef off of the bun, and then threw it on some lite bread instead.  Lite bread runs anywhere between 70 – 90 calories for 2 slices.  Maybe that can be a healthier alternative for those looking to splurge every once in a while.

Week one bites the dust.

Week one is finished, and week two has poked out its ugly head.  Week one was a very successful week.  I stayed on track and monitored all of my calorie intake.  I believe I even lost a few pounds, but of course I’m not telling you how many.  We’ll keep it a surprise until the next paper weigh in.  I was very motivated in week one, let’s hope week two is the same.   We all know that as time passes, our motivation for things seem to get less and less.  This is where I’ve failed in years past.

Side note:  We cancelled our TV service a few weeks back because we don’t really watch it, and whatever TV we do watch, we watch on netflix.  But, what I was trying to get at here, is it’s a good thing we don’t have TV.  Now I won’t be temped to sit down and watch the Super Bowl and binge on some pizza, pop, and or ice cream.

Testing 1 2, is this thing on?

Well I have 3 whole days under my belt, working on the fourth.  So far things seem to be going well.  I have been monitoring my calorie intake very strictly; along with monitoring what I eat.  I’ve been making better choices, but also making sure not to cut myself off of the things I love.  For example, pizza…. I LOVE PIZZA… by far my hardest thing to give up. I’m not necessarily giving it up, just watching the amount I take in.  I’ve learned a few tricks over the years when it comes to trying to control portions.

1. Drink some water before eat.  You’ll get fuller faster, and 0 calories J.

2. East slower.  It takes the brain about 20 mins for it to start feeling full.  I usually can polish off a whole pizza by that time.

3. Substitute salad for that extra 2 pieces of pizza you want to consume.  You’d be surprised on how fast calories add up!

Stay tuned.
